Radiotherapy uses high-energy rays to destroy cancer cells while causing the least possible damage to normal cells. They can be given externally or internally.

External radiotherapy will be given in the radiotherapy department as indicated by your doctor, while internal radiotherapy requires radioactive material to be inserted into the rectum (near or inside the tumor) for a short period of time.
